Poster Design Analysis

Poster Analysis

This poster shows the use of space and the colour pallet in a good poster. There are only 3 colours used, excluding the light blue text in the bottom left side of the poster. Using these dominant, solid colours, with the rule of thirds being used, makes this poster visually interesting.

This poster illustrates typography, and limits the info presented. Using the contrasting black lines against the solid white background is visually appealing. The limits of text used, with the solid text on a solid background makes it's easy to read, and visually impressive.

This poster once against shows great control of contrast between the two dominant colours of red and white. This poster also keep consistency on it's themes with the text being the same dominant colour against a red background.

Photo Essay

Photo Essay
Colin Brown-Hart

The the main purpose of this photo essay is to show the diverse way's students of Lakeshore Collegiate arrive to school, nearly everyday, rain or shine.

Skateboarding & Scootering: This photo show's quite possibly the most stereotypical method of travel for high school students. This photo was chosen to outline the environment, with a clear reflection of the person.

Vehicles: A method that a lucky minority of student use. This photo demonstrates a balanced foreground and background. The dominant lines made by the paint outlining the parking space. These add contrast to this photo.

Bicycles: Whether your going green' or just enjoy a ride in the morning, Lakeshore has a moderate population of bikers. This photo was shows variety, and was taken from the angle to make the bikes form a line across the photo.

Walking: For students who are lucky enough to live close enough, enjoy walking into school. This photo is an action shot, taken as a student was walking into the school.

TTC: As students who live in the largest city in Canada, we have the option to use the TTC, even if it does make us late! This photo is a action shot, and using rule of thirds to show the waiting students.

Composition Photography Assignment

 Rule of Thirds:
This photo follows the rule of thirds standard. As seen the wall, and the stop sign are in the right third of the picture, while the left side of the picture holds a constant tone.

 Pattern:
This photo shows the pattern present in our school vending machines. The products are placed in a pattern going across the machine and a pattern going deep into the machine.

  Shadow/Light:
This photo is of the shadow of the stop sign and wall. This shadow is interesting, and i like a framing being close to the bottom half of the frame.
        Texture:
This photo is of the walkway of a house neighboring LCI. Having the different sized rocks in the cement shows a dramatic texture.

        Balance:
This photo was taken to show a mirror image.the framing of the mirror image is centered because it is the most important part of the image. Having the symmetrical look of the photo more visually interesting.

COMPOSITION IN PHOTOGRAPHY

Rule of Thirds
The cactus is located within the right third of the picture, while the mountain is located on the left third of the picture. This method makes this picture more visually interesting.

            Texture
The ground is separated by deep cravats, creating an
rich texture. You can almost in-vision the feel of this texture.
That is what makes this photo so interesting.                                                              Pattern
This photo represents how                                                                     pattern effects images. Because                                                               the windows are located equal                                                               distance from each other,                                                                       makes this image interesting.
      Light and Shadow
By having the light source focused
above the chair allows a dominant
shadow to form on the ground
making this image interesting.

                                                                                                                           Dominant Lines
The dark line in the leaf force                                                                                                                        the eye to follow them,                                                                                                                                creating focal point. By having
dominant lines connecting at the                                                                                                                     base causes the eyes to focus                                                                                                                       on the base of the leaf.

Spring Sensations Poster.

Spring Sensations Tickets

Write up for Spring Sensations poster.

A few weeks ago, the whole class did a "Spring Sensations" brainstorming class where we wrote down our creative thoughts. Next, I drew out about 20 quick thumbnail sketches that included my ideas for this poster. I picked the thumbnail sketch that looked the easiest to read and that's not very complicated. I then created the small thumbnail sketch I have selected onto Photoshop, creating the tickets to match the poster as well. I came up with this nice and simple idea off the top of my head. Because grass reminds everyone as grass, I thought grass should be the background of this poster. I chose an easy-to-read font that is all capitals and is white against the green background so it is very simple to read and eye catching.  One of the meanings behind this poster is that you can create music out of the most simplest things of new life. Hence, the music notes and bars on the poster. For the process of making this poster, I made the grass background with the help of a tutorial on the internet. The font and music notes/bars, I've created by myself from just messing around with tools on Photoshop. This is my "Spring Sensations" Poster! :)

3D Postcard

1. The original images I chose was: the sun, some palm trees, a hammock and a light orb to add a halo of light.
2. The background size was  6 inches wide and 4 inches long at 300 ppi.The sun was 650 x 388, the Palm trees was 300 x 225, the Hammock was 310 x 206 and the light orb was  800 x 600. These are small pixel sized images, however because i used them in their original size, or slightly smaller, the 300 ppi worked.
3. I wanted to make a postcard that addressed the non stop nature of our society. It's important to relax and give yourself rest, which is the main point of the postcard. To do this, i wanted to have a woman relaxing on a beach, having palmtree's present with a hammock further enforces the relaxation effort of this postcard. In order for me to make this visually interesting i added some light from a light orb, found on the internet.
4. I started with the background. In order to make the palm trees and hammock match with the background and not just sit on top, I created a mask for them. This allowed a more organic looking palm tree and hammock. I then added in the woman, who was just a copy and paste/re-size. After that I added the sun photo, and masked it in the sky to make it look like a beautifully clear day. I made some modifications to locations of each elements, then I submitted it.
